Miesse was largely self-taught and copied a certificate after Carl Friedrich Egelmann (it is not known whether Miesse was, in fact, Egelmann's pupil). Following his move to Ohio, Miesse "established himself as a well respected doctor, especially for lung diseases." (Stopp, 70)
The family relationship between Miesse and the parties named in frakturs 65.9.1-.2 is not known.
